Washington County Opportunities, Inc. is a non-profit federally funded organization chartered under the laws of Mississippi. WCOI open its doors in March of 1974 to provide high-quality service to low-income children and families in the Washington County area. For over 50 years, Washington County Opportunities has been at the forefront of providing children with an early “head start” in education, creating opportunities for parents and community involvement, preventive health care needs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and advocacy and intervention for the socially disadvantaged and inadequately educated. Along with serving children and families within the Washington County community, the agency provides services to pregnant women/teens. The agency partners with Early Childhood Interventions and Public Schools to ensure ten (10) percent of children with disabilities are provided with services and accommodation in a learning environment.
Our agency promotes school readiness to low-income children ages 0-5 by enhancing cognitive and physical development, social and emotional development, literacy, language, and creative expression in a classroom setting. We currently provide quality services to six (6) centers located in the Washington County area: four (4) in Greenville, one (1) in Leland, and one (1) in Hollandale. We also have partnerships with three Pre-K Public Schools: Western Line Public Schools (Riverside and O’Bannon Campus), Leland Elementary School, and Hollandale Public School. As part of our commitment to the community, WCOI will continue to seek ways to improve our services and emphasize school readiness in all areas for the upcoming year.
